Literacy: Reading and Writing Workshops
As a teacher, I want all of my students to succeed within the four-walls of the classroom, as well as the world beyond it. To enable my students to succeed in any environment, the establishment of a literacy-rich environment is key. From the beginning of my ELMAC experience, I've been immersed in the process of understanding what a literacy-rich environment looks like, sounds like and feels like--both for me as a teacher and for students. The Reading Workshop and Writing Workshop formats allow me to differentiate instruction and to provide equity of instruction for all of the learners in my classroom by meeting students at their instructional level and explicitly teaching students how to become better readers and writers.
